{"id":306,"date":"2017-02-19T08:45:29","date_gmt":"2017-02-19T08:45:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chemicloud.com\/kb\/?post_type=article&#038;p=306"},"modified":"2020-03-25T14:42:30","modified_gmt":"2020-03-25T14:42:30","slug":"troubleshoot-wordpress-blank-page","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/chemicloud.com\/kb\/article\/troubleshoot-wordpress-blank-page\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Troubleshoot WordPress Blank Page"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Both PHP errors and database errors can manifest as a white screen, a blank screen with no information, commonly known in the WordPress community as the\u00a0<em>WordPress White Screen of Death<\/em>\u00a0(WSOD).<\/p>\n<p>Before resorting to desperate measures, there are a number of reasons for the WordPress white screen of death:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A Plugin is causing compatibility issues<\/strong>. If you can access the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/Administration_Screens\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Administration Screens<\/a>\u00a0try deactivating all of your Plugins and then reactivating them one by one. If you are unable to access your Screens, log in to your website via\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/FTP_Clients\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FTP<\/a>. Locate the folder\u00a0<tt>wp-content\/plugins<\/tt>\u00a0and rename the Plugin folder\u00a0<tt>plugins_old<\/tt>. This will deactivate all of your Plugins. You can read more about manually deactivating your plugins in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Troubleshooting FAQ<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Your Theme may be causing the problem<\/strong>. This is especially likely if you are experiencing the white screen of death after you have just activated a new Theme, or created a New Site in a WordPress Network. Log in to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/Administration_Screens\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Administration Screens<\/a>\u00a0and activate the default\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/themes\/twentysixteen\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WordPress Twenty Sixteen Theme<\/a>. If you can&#8217;t access your Administration Screens, access your website via FTP and navigate to the\u00a0<tt>\/wp-content\/themes\/<\/tt>\u00a0folder. Rename the folder for the active Theme.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Your Theme directory may be missing or renamed<\/strong>. This is common for developers who have just created a local development environment and cloned the database, which is pointing to a theme (or theme directory) that might be missing or renamed. To test this solution, try accessing wp-login.php or \/wp-admin\/. If you see anything, this is a good indication it&#8217;s theme-related. Log in as an administrator, then try to view the front-end and you should see a WordPress error message to the effect of: The theme directory &#8220;{theme-name}&#8221; does not exist.
