Did you know the Gmail app on Android works with email accounts other than Gmail<\/em>? That’s right! And if you haven’t used the Gmail app for some time, you may want to check out<\/a> some of the really cool enhancements Google has made to it over the past few months.<\/p>\n

By the end of this knowledgebase article, you will know how to add an account to Gmail on Android for the very first time, as well as how to add additional email accounts.<\/p>\n

Adding your first account to Gmail on Android<\/h2>\n

Gmail is preinstalled on most Android devices, however if you need to download it, you can click here<\/a> to open the app on the Play Store and download + install the app.<\/p>\n

Step 1:<\/strong> Open Gmail. On most Android devices, you can swipe up from the bottom of your screen to see the app drawer. Alternatively, your device may have a dedicated app drawer icon on the home screen. Or, Gmail may already be on your home screen.<\/p>\n

Step 2:<\/strong> The first time you open Gmail on Android, you’ll see a screen like the one below. If you haven’t used Gmail in a while, it might be a great idea to tap the > icon<\/strong> and review some of the new features.<\/p>\n

If you’re familiar with Gmail, feel free to tap<\/strong> Skip<\/strong> and move to Step 3<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Step 3:<\/strong> Tap + Add an email address<\/strong><\/p>\n

Step 9:<\/strong> On the next screen, ensure the\u00a0Require signin<\/strong> toggle is slid to the right. Also, check that your Username<\/strong> and Password<\/strong> are filled in correctly.<\/p>\n

In the SMTP<\/strong> Server field<\/strong>, ensure the SMTP<\/strong> Server<\/strong> is set to mail.yourdomain.tld<\/strong><\/p>\n

Then, tap Next<\/strong><\/p>\n

Step 10:<\/strong> You’ll briefly see a screen saying\u00a0Verifying Account Information<\/strong> and then, if the information you entered was correct, you’ll see a screen like the one below:<\/p>\n

Feel free to change any of these settings, but leave\u00a0Sync email for this account<\/strong> checked if you wish to be able to send\/receive email on this device.<\/p>\n

Tap\u00a0Next<\/strong> when ready.<\/p>\n

Step 11:<\/strong> On this screen, you can give the account a name<\/strong>, which is super useful if you have multiple email accounts setup in the Gmail App.<\/p>\n

Under\u00a0Your Name<\/strong>, ensure the name you want others to see when you send email on this device using the Gmail App is set appropriately.<\/p>\n

Tap\u00a0Next<\/strong> when ready.<\/p>\n

Adding additional accounts to Gmail on Android<\/h2>\n

As you can see from the final screenshot in the section above, you have the option to add additional accounts to Gmail back-to-back. However, let’s say you have already tapped the\u00a0Take me to Gmail<\/strong> button, it’s been a couple weeks, and you need to add a new account.\u00a0This section will cover how to add those additional accounts.<\/p>\n

Step 1: Open Gmail and tap the \u2261 icon<\/strong> (hamburger menu) in the top left to open the\u00a0Settings<\/strong> panel.<\/p>\n
