My Domain Is Registered With Another Provider, How Can I Use It?

If you’re making the switch to ChemiCloud from another hosting company, you can either transfer your domain name to us or just update the nameserver (DNS) entries to link it to your Chemicloud hosting account.

In order to use a domain registered somewhere else with your ChemiCloud hosting account, please follow these steps:

1)  Change the DNS servers for the domain in question at your registrar to the ones for your account. For the specific DNS settings information please reference the Welcome Email you received from ChemiCloud shortly after completing your purchase. Within it will be the exact DNS nameservers that you will need.

2) Allow 24 hours for the DNS changes to propagate and take effect.

  1. If anyone’s wondering about how a domain registered with another registrar can be used without either having the domain transferred to ChemiCloud or having the domain’s DNS records managed by cPanel of ChemiCloud, I will state how I connected a domain name that is registered with another registrar to a WP website that is hosted by ChemiCloud while having its DNS records managed with another DNS records hosting service whether it be the domain registrar itself or be a third-party DNS records hosting service provider such as HE, NameCheap, CloudFlare, etc.

    1. I kept the nameserver records pointing to servers that hosts DNS records.
    2. I updated A-type record(s) in DNS Records to have it pointing to server(s) at ChemiCloud.
    3. I updated CNAME-type record(s) in DNS Records to have it pointing to server(s) at ChemiCloud.
    4. I updated TXT-type records in DNS Records to have them supply values for domain keys in case WP hosting server at ChemiCloud tries to obtain the information when serving the website to client devices/software.

I kept CNAME-type and MX-type records pointing to an Email hosting provider. If one wants to use an Email hosting service provided by ChemiCloud, such records must be updated to have them pointing to servers at ChemiCloud.

I found ChemiCloud server information at Client Area > Dashboard > Active Service (tab) > “i” icon described as “server information” that is placed next to a website I wish to manage DNS records of. This information must be provided to one’s own domain registrar in order to manage DNS Records within ChemiCloud’s system.

I found ChemiCloud’s DNS Records information at cPanel > Zone Editor > “Manage” button next to a domain I wish to manage DNS records of. This information must be provided to one’s own DNS Records management system in order to manage DNS Records outside of ChemiCloud’s system.

I was somewhat frustrated when I could not find instruction for handling DNS records with my own DNS management system provider without transferring the domain to ChemiCloud, but I was relieved that above information could be obtained easily.
