How to Use cPanel’s User Manager

In this article, you will learn how to use cPanel’s User Manager in order to manage your new domain’s user base more efficiently.

What is the User Manager?

The User Manager in cPanel is a friendly and easy to use interface which allows you to add, edit and delete user access to your domain. Using this feature you can setup many important features for your users.

In this context, subaccounts refers to additional cPanel User accounts associated with the same domain, not different domain names.

Add Subaccount

Adding a subaccount or user is easy. Simply follow these steps:

1. Log in to your cPanel account

2. Go to the Preferences section and click on the User Manager.

cPanel > Preferences > User Manager

3. In the next window Click on Add User

4. Type in the user’s Full Name, desired Username, and Email Address.

Make sure to select the appropriate domain if you manage more than one. Equally important is to provide a valid Email address, so that the subaccount user can use the Reset Password feature.

5. Set the user’s a new password or use the Password Generator.

Note: choose a strong password, based on the strength meter underneath the password box.

6. Select the desired Services you would like to add to the specified user. You can either choose to offer Email, FTP services. Below is an explanation of each of these options:

cPanel domain owners can assign three types of services for their associated user Subaccounts.

Email

This feature activates the Subaccount’s Email address. You can access this private Email by navigating to https://yourdomain.com/webmail.

The only feature you can modify from this interface is the Email Quota. This can either be Unrestricted or fixed to a certain amount (up to 4096 TB).

FTP

The File Transfer Protocol, or FTP, associated with each subaccount allows users to connect to the server using a client like FileZilla or CyberDuck to upload, edit, and delete files on the webserver. In order for this service to be available for activation, your web host must have the service running on the server.

The two features available are Quota and Home Directory. The quota determines the amount of disk space the subaccount user may use. This can either be set to a fixed amount or unrestricted.

The Home directory is the direct path to the subaccount’s home directory. It is set by default public_html/username.

6. Click on Create or Create and Add Another User and you’re done.

Edit Subaccount

From the main User Manager page, you can edit each added subaccount user. You may notice that the main cPanel account name and logs account are not editable from this interface.

Click on Edit and you will land on to the exact page you visited when you’ve created the subaccount. However, you will no longer be able to change the Username and Domain. All other features are still configurable.

Delete Subaccount

If you want to delete a Subaccount, simply click on Delete from the User Manager page. The link is right next to the Change Password button. You just need to confirm your selection and you’re done.

We’re here if you have any questions or feedback!

  1. hello,
i have set a password to one of my subaccounts in order to link it on my cell phone…the problem is that i have already set this same email to send verification emails on my website…once i set a password, my website stopped sending these verification messages. i assume it s because the website cant access my subaccount email anymore.
the question would be, how can i remove a password from a subaccount without deleting it? bring it back to no password…
i appreciate your response, thank you
