The A Record, or Address Record, links a domain to an IP address. When someone types a domain into a browser, the A Record directs them to the corresponding IP address where the website is hosted.
More About A Records
Domains and IP addresses are foundational elements of the web. While IP addresses (a series of numbers) represent the actual location of a website on a server, domain names are user-friendly addresses that we type into browsers.
The A Record acts as a bridge between these, ensuring users are taken to the right location. For websites using IPv6, there’s an AAAA Record, which functions similarly but corresponds to IPv6 addresses.
