We make reseller hosting, and we compete with HostPapa. This page compares HostPapa’s reseller plans with five alternatives, ours included. It’s also honest about when staying with HostPapa, on a longer term, is the better move.
It covers reseller hosting only. If you host your own website on HostPapa’s shared, WordPress or VPS plans, our web hosting plans are the better comparison. And if you don’t have hosting clients yet, start with our guide to starting a reseller hosting business.
The short answer (verified 6 October 2026): compare renewal price per cPanel account, not the price you started on. Switching can lower that figure at every HostPapa size and replace a shared resource pool with a fixed allowance per client. It won’t get you phone support, two free dedicated IPs or support in French, German and Spanish, which HostPapa includes. If price is your only problem, renewing with HostPapa on a longer term may be the cheapest fix.

HostPapa reseller hosting at a glance
HostPapa sells five cPanel/WHM reseller plans, from 20 to 150 client accounts. CPU and memory are set per plan, as a pool you divide between your clients.
| Bronze | Silver | Gold | Platinum | Titanium | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| cPanel accounts | 20 | 40 | 60 | 100 | 150 |
| Storage (NVMe) | 50 GB | 100 GB | 150 GB | 200 GB | 250 GB |
| CPU / RAM, shared by all accounts | 4 cores / 2 GB | 4 cores / 4 GB | 8 cores / 8 GB | 8 cores / 16 GB | 8 cores / 32 GB |
| Disk I/O per account | 5 MB/s | 10 MB/s | 20 MB/s | 40 MB/s | 80 MB/s |
| First term → renewal ($/mo, 12-month term) | $17.95 → $34.99 | $22.95 → $44.99 | $34.95 → $69.99 | $47.95 → $94.99 | $62.95 → $124.99 |
| Renewal per cPanel account | $1.75 | $1.12 | $1.17 | $0.95 | $0.83 |
Prices in USD, verified 6 October 2026 on HostPapa’s reseller and renewal pricing pages and confirmed by HostPapa’s sales team. HostPapa’s headline prices are for a 3-year term; 12-month prices are shown here so every provider on this page is compared on the same term.
The rest, in brief. Every plan includes a ClientExec licence; from Gold you can choose WHMCS instead. Backups run daily and are kept for 30 days, and you can restore them yourself. Each plan comes with two dedicated IPs, an OpenSRS domain reseller account, private nameservers, CloudLinux and Imunify360 malware protection. Migrations are free with no stated limit. Support runs 24/7 by phone, chat and email in English, French, German and Spanish. The money-back guarantee is 30 days, for first purchases only.
First question: would a longer HostPapa term fix it?
Before you compare hosts, check one thing: HostPapa’s renewal rate depends on the billing term you choose.
| Renewal rate ($/mo) | Monthly | 1 year | 3 years | Saving, 1 year → 3 years |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze (20 accounts) | $44.99 | $34.99 | $29.99 | 14% |
| Silver (40) | $54.99 | $44.99 | $39.99 | 11% |
| Gold (60) | $84.99 | $69.99 | $54.99 | 21% |
| Platinum (100) | $114.99 | $94.99 | $84.99 | 11% |
| Titanium (150) | $134.99 | $124.99 | $114.99 | 8% |
From HostPapa’s renewal pricing page, 6 October 2026. Two-year rates sit between the two.
If price is your only complaint, renewing on a longer term is a real fix. On Gold it takes a fifth off the bill, and it costs you nothing to move.
The trade-off is commitment. A 3-year Silver renewal is billed upfront, at about $1,440. HostPapa told us its money-back guarantee applies to first purchases only, not renewals, so once the renewal goes through, that money is spent. If there’s a chance you’ll want to leave within three years, a longer term locks you in.
It narrows the gap; it doesn’t close it everywhere. Even at HostPapa’s 3-year rate, Silver works out at $1.00 per account per month. Several alternatives below renew for less than that on a 12-month term. The plan match shows where.
The rest of this page compares every provider on a 12-month term. Term discounts differ from host to host, so don’t assume a longer term is cheaper anywhere else.
Why resellers on HostPapa look elsewhere
Each reason below comes with a straight answer: will a different host actually fix it?
The renewal doubling
Every HostPapa reseller plan roughly doubles at renewal on a 12-month term, from 1.95× on Bronze to 2.0× on Gold. If you started on the 3-year offer, the same step arrives at the end of year three.
Switching changes the size of that step, not whether there is one: most hosts here step up between 1.75× and 2.4×. The number that differs is renewal price per cPanel account, from $1.75 on Bronze to $0.83 on Titanium at HostPapa. If you pass hosting costs on to clients, a lower renewal per account is what keeps you from raising your clients’ prices. Our look at the cheapest reseller hosting explains what low first-term prices usually leave out.
cPanel raises its licence prices every January. HostPapa and ChemiCloud both told us they hold a reseller’s price until the end of the paid term; ask any host the same. To see what the next increase means for your book, try our cPanel price increase calculator.
Does switching fix it? Partly: the step stays, the cost per account can drop.
How much each client account really gets
HostPapa is the only host on this page that lets you set CPU and memory limits for each client account yourself. It’s worth knowing what you’re dividing.
HostPapa’s sales team told us the CPU and RAM listed for each plan is a shared pool. Silver’s 4 cores and 4 GB are shared by up to 40 client accounts; Bronze’s 2 GB by up to 20. Leave the pool open and a busy client can use whatever headroom is free. Set limits and you decide in advance how small each client’s share is. Either way, adding a client doesn’t add resources. That’s control over a pool, not an allowance per client.
The alternatives here work the other way round. The host sets a ceiling for each cPanel account, from 1 GB to 3 GB of memory depending on the provider, and every account gets the same ceiling however many clients you add. You can’t change it, but you don’t have to ration it either. Our guide to overselling explains how shared resources are sized and when that’s reasonable.
If your clients run small brochure sites, a pool may never be a problem. If a few run busy shops or membership sites, compare this row of the table before anything else.
Does switching fix it? Yes, if you’d rather have a fixed ceiling per client than a pool to divide.
Billing software
Every HostPapa reseller plan includes a WHMCS licence, and from Gold you can choose ClientExec instead. On Gold and above the licence is WHMCS Starter. So billing software, on its own, isn’t a reason to leave.
What matters is what happens when you do. HostPapa told us the licence is cancelled along with the plan. Your WHMCS installation and its data are yours, but you’ll need a licence at the new host from the day you cancel. Check whether the host you’re moving to includes one, and whether it’s WHMCS or something else. If you’d be switching platforms, read WHMCS vs Blesta first, and our comparison of reseller hosting with free WHMCS lists who includes what.
Does switching fix it? Nothing to fix, but plan the licence before you move.
Backups
HostPapa told us reseller backups run daily, are kept for 30 days, and can be restored by you or its support team. That’s solid, and on its own it’s not a reason to leave; ours work the same way. Elsewhere, ask how long copies are kept: one alternative below keeps them for 24 hours. There’s more on who’s responsible when a client deletes their site.
Does switching fix it? There’s usually nothing to fix.
Your clients are far from HostPapa’s data centres
HostPapa told us it operates data centres in Toronto, Los Angeles, Buffalo, Miami and Amsterdam, which covers Canada, the US and Western Europe well. If many of your clients’ visitors are in the UK, Germany, India, Southeast Asia or Australia, a closer server may matter more than price. Ask HostPapa which data centre your plan is on.
Does switching fix it? Yes, if you move to a host with a location nearer your clients’ visitors.
You’ve outgrown 150 accounts
Titanium stops at 150 accounts, with HostPapa VPS and dedicated servers above it. Our largest reseller plan holds 200 accounts, and we don’t sell root VPS or dedicated servers. If you’re near the top of HostPapa’s range, read outgrowing reseller hosting before you look elsewhere.
Does switching fix it? Rarely. If you need more than 200 accounts, stay.
Does switching fix it?
| Why you’re looking | Does switching fix it? | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Renewal doubles | Partly. Compare renewal per account | A longer HostPapa term, or the plan match |
| Shared resource pool | Yes | Any alternative here; ChemiCloud and Verpex have the highest ceilings |
| Billing software | No need; plan the licence | Hosts that include your platform |
| Backups | Usually not | Check retention and self-restore anywhere you go |
| Server location | Yes, if a host is nearer your visitors | ChemiCloud, hosting.com |
| More than 150 accounts | Rarely | HostPapa VPS, or hosting.com up to 300 |
Reasons to stay with HostPapa
Some of HostPapa’s reseller features are better than ours. If two or more of these are why you chose it, switching may cost you more than it saves.
- 24/7 phone support, plus chat and email. We support resellers by chat and ticket only.
- Support in French, German and Spanish as well as English. We support resellers in English only. For an agency in Quebec, that may settle it.
- Two dedicated IPs on every plan. We don’t offer dedicated IPs.
- Setting CPU and memory limits per client yourself, if you’d rather divide a pool than accept a fixed ceiling.
- A domain reseller account in the same dashboard. HostPapa includes OpenSRS, and told us you keep access to it even after cancelling your hosting. We don’t include one; we introduce resellers to ResellerClub or CentralNic instead.
- ClientExec, if that’s your billing platform. We don’t offer it.
- Lower renewals for longer commitments, as the term table shows.
- More storage at the entry sizes. Silver has 100 GB; our Kickstart has 60 GB.
- A VPS and dedicated path above 150 accounts.
Some things are the same on both sides: 30 days of daily backups with self-restore, Imunify360, CloudLinux, a price held for the paid term, no notices to your clients in the host’s name, and a Canadian data centre (HostPapa’s in Toronto, ours in Montreal).
The alternatives compared
We compared HostPapa with ChemiCloud and the four other cPanel/WHM reseller hosts we cover across this series: InMotion, GreenGeeks, hosting.com and Verpex. SiteGround also sells reseller-style plans, but on its own control panel rather than cPanel, so it isn’t a like-for-like move.
Each row shows the provider’s smallest plan that fits Silver’s 40 accounts.
| Plan | Accounts | Storage | Intro → renewal ($/mo) | Renewal per account | Billing software | Backups | Memory / CPU per account | Phone | Dedicated IPs | Refund window | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HostPapa | Silver | 40 | 100 GB NVMe | $22.95 → $44.99 | $1.12 | WHMCS (ends with the plan) | Daily, kept 30 days, self-restore | Shared pool: 4 cores / 4 GB for the plan | Yes | 2 included | 30 days (first purchase) |
| ChemiCloud | Kickstart | 40 (or 60*) | 60 GB NVMe (or 40 GB*) | $17.95 → $34.95 | $0.87 (or $0.58*) | Blesta (WHMCS from Grow) | Daily, kept 30 days, self-restore | 3 GB / 2 CPU | No | No | 45 days |
| InMotion | R-2000N | 50 | 160 GB NVMe | $26.99 → $55.99 | $1.12 | WHMCS Starter | Backup Manager add-on, $2.99/mo | 1 GB / 1 CPU | Yes | 2 included | 90 days (6-month+ terms) |
| GreenGeeks | RH-50 | 50 | 80 GB SSD | $24.95 → $49.95 | $1.00 | WHMCS Starter, on request | Nightly, kept 24 hours | 1 GB / not published | Yes | Not listed | 30 days |
| hosting.com | Reseller 60 | 60 | 180 GB NVMe | $32.92 → $65.83 | $1.10 | Not included | Daily, kept 30 days | 2 GB / 1 CPU | Yes | $10/mo add-on | 30 days |
| Verpex | Reseller 60 | 60 | 180 GB NVMe | $27.60 → $69.00 | $1.15 | None | Daily, up to twice a day | 2 GB / 2 CPU | Yes | Not listed | 30 days |
*ChemiCloud’s accounts-optimised Kickstart: 60 accounts and 40 GB at the same price as the storage-optimised version. Monthly prices in USD at a 12-month term, checked 1–6 October 2026 on each provider’s own pages, with HostPapa, hosting.com and InMotion details confirmed by their sales teams. Introductory rates apply to the first term only. hosting.com Reseller 50 exists; confirm price and whether it should replace Reseller 60 in this row. hosting.com prices still unverified on hosting.com’s own page.
At renewal, three alternatives cost about the same per account as Silver, Verpex slightly more, and our Kickstart less. Storage pulls the other way for us: if your clients’ sites are large, our Grow plan (120 GB) is the fairer comparison. Every alternative gives each account a fixed ceiling rather than a share of a pool, and only InMotion matches HostPapa’s two included IPs.
The alternatives, one by one
Every provider gets the same treatment: what you’d gain compared with HostPapa, and what you’d give up. That includes us.
ChemiCloud (our plans)
Best if you’re leaving HostPapa because of: the renewal step, the shared resource pool, or a server location outside North America and Western Europe.
What you gain. More accounts for the money at every size. Kickstart renews at $34.95 a month for 40 accounts (60 if accounts-optimised), with Blesta included. HostPapa Bronze renews at $34.99 for 20. Each client account gets up to 3 GB of memory and 2 CPUs, however many accounts you add. If you want WHMCS, it’s included from Grow, which holds 60 accounts and renews at $45.95.
We migrate your whole book free, however many accounts, and move your WHMCS or Blesta installation and database onto the licence included with your plan, at no cost, which matters because your HostPapa licence ends with the plan. Support is 24/7, by people, with no AI chatbots. LiteSpeed runs on every plan (HostPapa told us it typically uses Apache on reseller servers). Daily backups are kept for 30 days, with single-account self-restore. Our nine locations add the UK, Germany, India, Singapore, South Korea and Australia to the US and Canada. Month-to-month billing is available.
What you give up. Phone support: we offer chat and tickets only, because we’ve found we resolve issues faster that way. Support in languages other than English. Dedicated IPs, which we don’t offer. A bundled domain reseller account. ClientExec. Plans above 200 accounts, and a root VPS or dedicated server to grow into. And storage at the smaller sizes: Kickstart has 60 GB to Silver’s 100 GB.
Renewal reality. Kickstart is $17.95 a month on a 12-month term and $34.95 at renewal, about 1.95×. Grow is $19.95 and renews at $45.95.
Two things to know at setup. Quota, suspension and abuse notices go to the contact email set on each cPanel account, so set it to your own address, not the client’s. And going over your plan’s bandwidth limit suspends the account rather than slowing it down.
| HostPapa Silver vs ChemiCloud Kickstart | HostPapa | ChemiCloud |
|---|---|---|
| cPanel accounts | 40 | 40 or 60 |
| Storage | 100 GB | 60 GB or 40 GB |
| Renewal per account | $1.12 | $0.87 or $0.58 |
| Billing software | ClientExec | Blesta (WHMCS from Grow) |
| Memory / CPU per account | Shared pool you divide | 3 GB / 2 CPU each |
| Phone support | Yes | No (chat and ticket) |
| Refund window | 30 days | 45 days |

InMotion Hosting
Best if you’re leaving HostPapa because of: the shared pool, while keeping phone support, WHMCS and dedicated IPs.
What you gain. WHMCS Starter on every plan, phone support from R-2000N upward, two dedicated IPs on R-2000N, an eNom domain reseller account, and a 90-day money-back guarantee on 6-month and longer terms, the longest on this page.
What you give up. A fixed ceiling of 1 GB and 1 CPU per account, the lowest here. Backups, which are a Backup Manager add-on at $2.99 a month. Plan sizes: the smallest holds 25 accounts and the largest 100. Servers in three regions.
Renewal reality. R-2000N: $26.99 → $55.99 on a 12-month term. If InMotion is on your shortlist, our page on InMotion reseller alternatives covers its plans in more detail.
GreenGeeks
Best if you’re leaving HostPapa because of: the renewal cost at mid sizes, while keeping WHMCS and phone support.
What you gain. WHMCS Starter on request, phone support on every plan, an eNom domain reseller account, and green-energy matching agencies can pass on. RH-50 renews at $1.00 per account, against Silver’s $1.12, with ten more accounts.
What you give up. Backups are nightly and kept for 24 hours, against HostPapa’s 30 days, so a problem noticed on day two can’t be rolled back from GreenGeeks’ copy. Free migration covers up to 30 cPanel accounts. The largest plan, RH-80, stops at 80 accounts.
Renewal reality. RH-50: $24.95 → $49.95 on a 12-month term.
hosting.com (cPanel plans)
Best if you’re leaving HostPapa because of: the shared pool or the 150-account ceiling, while keeping phone support and 30-day backups.
What you gain. A fixed 2 GB and 1 CPU per account for Reseller 30 and 2 GB and 2 CPUs for Reseller 60 and above, daily backups kept for 30 days, 24/7 phone support, and cPanel plans in twelve sizes up to 300 accounts. Hosting.com also sells a lower-cost reseller line on a different control panel, Enhance, if your clients don’t need cPanel.
What you give up. Billing software, which isn’t included, so you’d buy your WHMCS licence yourself. Dedicated IPs cost $10 a month each. And on several sizes, including Reseller 60, the price doubles at renewal, much as at HostPapa.
Renewal reality. Reseller 60: $32.92 → $65.83 on a 12-month term. Our page on hosting.com reseller alternatives covers both of its reseller lines.
Verpex
Best if you’re leaving HostPapa because of: the shared pool, and you don’t mind buying billing software.
What you gain. A fixed 2 GB and 2 CPUs per account, daily backups (up to twice a day), unbranded nameservers and server hostnames, 24/7 phone support, and free migrations with no stated limit. Verpex renews at the same rate whatever term you choose.
What you give up. Billing software, which isn’t included. And at this size Verpex renews slightly above HostPapa per account: Reseller 60 at $1.15 against Silver’s $1.12.
Renewal reality. Reseller 60: $27.60 → $69.00 on a 12-month term.

Renewal price per month at a 12-month term, divided by the plan’s cPanel accounts. Checked 1–6 October 2026; hosting.com figures on publication day. †Below HostPapa’s storage at the same size. Where storage matters, size up: at 40 accounts, Grow (60 accounts, 120 GB) renews at $0.77 per account; at 60, Expand (90 accounts, 160 GB) renews at $0.69. For Titanium, our only plan with room for 150 accounts is the accounts-optimised Established: 200 accounts and 100 GB at $77.95 ($0.39 per account). That suits a book of many small sites, not one that needs 250 GB.
Three things stand out.
- Bronze is where switching saves most. Every alternative renews below Bronze per account, and our Kickstart holds twice as many accounts for the same monthly price.
- At Silver, the field is close. InMotion, GreenGeeks, hosting.com and Verpex all land within about ten cents of HostPapa per account. The real differences there are resources per account, backups and support, not price.
- At Titanium, HostPapa is hard to beat on price. Its $0.83 per account is below hosting.com’s nearest plan, and on a 3-year renewal it falls to $0.77. Only hosting.com offers more storage at that size, and we have no equivalent.
Where we’d send you elsewhere
We’d rather you move once, to the right host, than move to us and leave in six months.
- Price is your only problem and you’re happy to commit: stay with HostPapa and renew on a longer term.
- You want phone support: stay with HostPapa, or look at InMotion, GreenGeeks, hosting.com or Verpex. We support by chat and ticket only.
- You or your clients need support in French, German or Spanish: stay with HostPapa.
- You rely on two free dedicated IPs: stay with HostPapa, or move to InMotion.
- You’re on Titanium, or need more than 200 accounts: stay with HostPapa, or look at hosting.com, which goes to 300 accounts on cPanel.
- You bill with ClientExec: stay on HostPapa Gold or above. We don’t offer it.
How to switch from HostPapa without your clients noticing
You’ve decided to move. The order matters more than the speed. These steps follow the sequence our migrations team uses; the detail for each is in our guide to migrating client sites without downtime.
- Start four to six weeks before your HostPapa renewal date, and don’t cancel anything yet. HostPapa renews automatically, with a reminder at least 15 days ahead, and a renewal isn’t refundable. A few weeks of overlap is cheaper than a rushed move.
- List everything in the book. cPanel accounts, client domains and where each is registered, mailboxes, cron jobs, any apps, and anything that depends on one of your dedicated IPs.
- Sort out billing. Your WHMCS or ClientExec licence is cancelled along with your HostPapa plan, so export the installation and its database first and make sure the new host has a licence ready. If you’re moving to ChemiCloud, we’ll move a WHMCS or Blesta installation onto the licence included with your plan at no cost (Blesta on Kickstart, WHMCS from Grow). If you’re changing platform, read WHMCS vs Blesta before deciding.
- Leave the domains where they are, for now. HostPapa told us you keep access to your OpenSRS domain reseller account after cancelling the hosting, including the transfer (EPP) codes. So client domains don’t have to move with the hosting. Check how domain renewals will be billed once the hosting plan has gone, and if you want to consolidate domains elsewhere, do it later as a separate project. Never let a domain transfer overlap the hosting move.
- Set up private nameservers at the new host first. If your clients already point at your own nameservers, you change the glue records once and the whole book follows. Here’s how private nameservers work.
- Migrate and test each account before touching DNS. Check each site on the new server using a hosts-file entry or a temporary URL.
- Plan for new IP addresses. HostPapa told us the two dedicated IPs are released when you cancel. Most sites need nothing, but check firewall allow-lists, payment gateway settings and any DNS records that point at those IPs directly.
- Prepare email. Lower DNS TTLs a day ahead and confirm SPF records include the new host’s mail servers.
- Tell your clients before, not after. A short note about the date and what they might notice saves most of the questions. Here’s how to tell clients about a hosting change, and what to say if something goes down.
- Switch DNS, then follow up. The most common problem our migrations team sees after a move is a DNS change that’s been left undone. Chase every client whose domain doesn’t point at you yet.
- Cancel HostPapa last, and at the end of the term. Use the cancellation form in your HostPapa dashboard and choose end of term rather than immediate. HostPapa’s cancellation policy says its billing team confirms requests within 3–5 business days, and that files and email may be removed permanently once a cancellation is processed. Take a final full backup of every account before you send the request.
FAQ
Why does my HostPapa reseller plan cost twice as much at renewal?
HostPapa’s first-term prices are promotional, and every reseller plan renews at roughly double on a 12-month term. To compare fairly, divide the renewal price by your number of accounts; the plan match does this for every size.
Is HostPapa reseller hosting cheaper on a 3-year term?
Yes. HostPapa’s renewal rates fall as the term gets longer: Silver renews at $44.99 a month on a 1-year term and $39.99 on a 3-year term. The renewal is billed upfront, and HostPapa told us it isn’t covered by the money-back guarantee.
Does HostPapa reseller hosting include WHMCS?
Gold plans and above includes a WHMCS licence. The licence is cancelled when the plan is, so export your installation before you leave.
What happens to my domains if I leave HostPapa reseller hosting?
HostPapa told us you keep access to your OpenSRS domain reseller account after cancelling, including transfer codes. Your clients’ domains don’t have to move with the hosting. If you move them, do it separately.
Can I move my HostPapa reseller accounts without downtime?
Yes, if you test every account before changing DNS and cancel last. Our migration guide covers the steps.
Is there a cheaper alternative to HostPapa Silver at renewal?
Per account, ChemiCloud’s Kickstart ($0.87) and GreenGeeks’ RH-50 ($1.00) renew for less than Silver’s $1.12 on a 12-month term. Renewing Silver for three years brings it to $1.00.
Moving off HostPapa?
